The charm of winter in Ruidoso isn’t just in the snow — it’s in the lights, laughter, and community spirit. This year, Ruidoso Parks & Recreation has lined up a wonderful slate of holiday events — perfect for locals, cabin renters, and visitors alike. Here are the top ones to put on your calendar if you’re in town this season.
❄️ Ice Skating at Wingfield Park — Opening Weekend: Nov 29–30
Get ready to lace up your skates — the outdoor rink at Wingfield Park returns for the 2025–2026 season! Opening weekend is Saturday and Sunday, November 29–30, with regular weekend and evening hours throughout the season. Day passes start at $20 (or $12 if you bring your own skates), and Ruidoso residents can pick up a $20 season pass. Whether you’re a seasoned skater or just want to try something new, it’s a great way to kick off a cozy holiday getaway.
🎅 Christmas in the Park — Thursday, December 4
Celebrate the season under the pines with this festive community event at Wingfield Park. The evening begins at 5:30 PM with music, ice skating, and holiday fun for all ages. Around 6:00 PM, Santa and Mrs. Claus arrive with the Mayor for the official tree-lighting ceremony. Expect sleigh rides, photos with Santa, and a special toy giveaway for kids. The holiday lights will remain glowing through January 31, 2026 — a perfect excuse for a nighttime stroll or family outing.
🌟 Ruidoso Festival of Lights Parade — Saturday, December 6, 5:30 PM
One of Ruidoso’s most beloved holiday traditions — the Festival of Lights Parade — returns this year with all the sparkle, music, and hometown joy you’d expect. The parade runs along Sudderth Drive beginning at 5:30 PM, with floats, marching groups, and plenty of holiday cheer. After the parade, make your way to Wingfield Park for more holiday fun and maybe even some skating under the lights. The parade also partners with Toys for Tots, so consider bringing along a new, unwrapped toy to share some holiday spirit.
🌌 Christmas Drone Show and Drive‑In Movie — Saturday, December 13, 6–9:30 PM
For a festive twist on holiday entertainment, head to the White Mountain Sports Complex for an evening that blends nostalgic and futuristic fun. The night begins at 6:00 PM with a drive-in showing of The Nutcracker and the Four Realms. Then at 8:15 PM, experience a dazzling drone-light show illuminating the winter sky — a free, family-friendly event that’s bound to be a highlight of the season. Bring blankets or lawn chairs, bundle up, and enjoy a magical winter evening under the stars.
