Summer is here! And for most of the country that means the heat has arrived as well. We’ve put together a list of the hottest events happening this summer season so you have more excuses to come cool off here in Ruidoso!

May

May 26-29 – Opening Weekend at Ruidoso Downs Race Track and Casino

With live races happening Friday through Sunday every weekend with a 1pm first post time followed by live concerts most nights, you will always have an exciting option for entertainment no matter what else is going on in town.

Memorial Day weekend kicks off with Ruidoso Futurity Trials Friday and Saturday, Ruidoso Derby Trials on Sunday, and wraps up with the John Andreini Memorial Stakes on Monday.


June

June 3 – Great High Mountain Bed Race and Green Chile Cookoff

The 5th annual Bed Race put on by the High Mountain Youth Project. The bed parade begins at Center St and Wingfield at 9am and travels through Midtown. Then the teams race their beds back through Midtown, finishing back at Wingfield Park where food, fun and games kick off! All proceeds benefit the High Mountain Youth Project.

June 16-18 – Ruidoso Tattoo Expo

Tattoo artists gather from all over the country at the Ruidoso Convention Center, representing many different styles and techniques. If you’ve been looking to get inked, here’s your chance! Featuring live tattooing, oldies car show, live music, games and more.

June 17-18 – Brewdoso Beer and Wine Festival

Celebrate New Mexico craft beer, wine and food with live music and family-friendly fun all weekend! The Party in the Pines starts at 11am Saturday at Wingfield Park, rain or shine.


July

July 1-4 – Mescalero Apache Ceremonial Dances and Rodeo

Celebrate July 4th weekend with the Mescalero Apache Tribe as they share their history and culture with ceremonial activities, a parade and an open rodeo. Located on the nearby Mescalero Apache Reservation.

July 1-4 – Smokey Bear Stampede

The nation’s largest open rodeo weekend comes to nearby Capitan with eight – that’s right, eight – rodeos happening in just four days. Catch one of the four nightly rodeos, the two-day ranch rodeo, youth ranch rodeo and kid’s rough stock rodeo, along with a cook off, kids events and more!

July 4 – Star Spangled Celebration

Finish July 4th off at the Inn of the Mountain Gods with their Star Spangled Celebration starting at 3pm on July 4th. Enjoy live entertainment, concessions and games for the kids, all ending with a bang: the biggest and longest fireworks show in New Mexico!

July 8 – Fort Stanton LIVE!

Go back in time and experience Civil War era demonstrations portrayed by costumed interpreters. There will be concessions and live entertainment all day, including cavalry, infantry and artillery demonstrations, presentations by soldiers, concerts and a military ball to dance the night away. Doors open at 9am!

July 15-16 – Rainbow Weekend at Ruidoso Downs Race Track

An action packed weekend of races at Ruidoso Downs, including the $750,000 Rainbow Derby, Rainbow Oaks, and Rainbow Invitational Stakes on Saturday July 15 and the $1,000,000 Rainbow Futurity and Rainbow Juvenile Stakes on Sunday July 16.

July 21-23 – Ruidoso Art Festival

Enjoy a weekend full of art and wine! Artists from near and far gather to share and sell their work. Art lovers, from first time buyers to serious collectors, will find something to love, all while enjoying tastings of local wines and craft beers.


August

August 4-6 – Alto Artists Studio Tour

The Alto art community open their private homes and studios to the public for a free, self-guided tour. See behind the scenes of the local art community, their works and interact with the artists. The tour runs 10am to 5pm Friday and Saturday and 12pm to 4pm on Sunday.

August 4-6 – Old Lincoln Days

The 82nd annual folk pageant where actors portray Billy the Kid’s last escape and the Lincoln County War each night. You will also find food, live music, a parade, and more fun for all ages! Opens at 10am each morning.


September

September 2-4 – All American Weekend at Ruidoso Downs Race Track

The closing weekend of horse races at Ruidoso Downs, featuring seven races over three days, ending with “The World’s Richest Quarter Horse Race,” the $3,000,000 All American Futurity, on Labor Day.

September 15-17 – Ride Ruidoso Motorcycle Rally

The second annual Ride Ruidoso rally returns with concerts, food and vendors at Wingfield Park all weekend starting at 10am each day. Check out their website for a concert schedule as the event nears!
